My name is Jarmal, but most people call me Jay. I’m a designer and curator based in North Carolina 🇺🇸.

For over a decade, I’ve helped nonprofits, small businesses, government agencies, and e-learning companies figure out their marketing and brand direction, then bring it to life through design.

I built this site as a home for the things I make and somewhat obsess over. After years of curating references on Pinterest, I realized I could build my own ongoing log of the styles I’m interested in.

I feel that one of the coolest things I get to do now is experiment with AI by testing out different prompts and visual references to see how closely the results match what I have in mind as I’m building out the style collections.

I’ve learned that sometimes an image looks good at first glance but doesn’t quite capture the style, details, or taste I’m aiming for. This is possibly the most time-consuming part but I see it as part of the journey.

What’s my on-the-record opinion about AI in design? AI has come so far, there are still a few quirks that it has to work out. I strongly feel that designers, photographers, and videographers truly don’t have anything to worry about because it struggles with getting the small things that make what we create as humans so unique.

However, while I love to pick up my camera and to build something from scratch, it’s really cool to use AI to explore different design explorations and to see every possible idea and have it be a part of the creative process.

Hopefully, this helps you put a name to some of the visuals you’re drawn to, especially if you’re trying to build a world around your own brand or project. Or maybe you’ll come across something you hadn’t seen before and think, “I want to try that.”
