Origins and attribution

A retrospective label, named after Windows Vista's Aero design guideline and Adrian Frutiger's typeface (CARI). CARI's introduction says Sofi Lee coined the term; its attribution metadata credits Froyo Tam and Sofi Xian. Both credits are kept visible. Dazed (2023) reported its revival as an internet aesthetic.

INGREDIENTS

Glossy interfaces, humanist sans-serif type, translucent bubbles, blue skies, macro grass, water droplets, and luminous gradients.

POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS

Internet-history features, nostalgic digital campaigns, and illustration exploring an optimistic vision of technology.

WAYS TO EXPLORE

Decide whether nature, interface gloss, or photography leads. The broader setting distinguishes it from a glassmorphism treatment applied to an otherwise unrelated layout.

OFTEN CONFUSED WITH

Often confused with Y2K's millennium-era technology imagery, Neo Frutiger Aero (this library's working label for revival work) and Skeuomorphism (imitating real objects); Frutiger Aero combines glossy interfaces with idealized nature, but the visual cues overlap.
